Today,
Friday June 5th,
the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released the 2015 edition
of the CDC Sexually Transmitted Diseases Treatment Guidelines.
This
is the single most authoritative, comprehensive and up to date guide on the
management and treatment of STDs and the new edition has been eagerly awaited.
In fact, the last edition came out 5 years ago in 2010.
Here
to talk to us about the background of this document and some of the important changes
compared to the previous edition is Dr. Ina Park. Dr. Park is the Medical
Director of the California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center. She is also an
adjunct assistant professor in the department of Family and Community Medicine
at the University of California San Francisco.
Disclaimer: An earlier version of this podcast mentioned a recommendation for annual hepatitis C (HCV) screening for all men who have sex with men. While sexual transmission of HCV can occur in HIV-negative MSM, the current CDC recommendation for annual HCV screening applies only to HIV-positive MSM. This section has now been corrected on the current version of the podcast.
